By air

There are a number of airports in the wider Stockholm area, including Arlanda (the largest airport), Skavsta, Västerås and Bromma.

  • There are regular coach services between the airports and Stockholm central station.
  • There is also a fast train service called Arlanda Express, which runs between Arlanda and the central station in Stockholm.
  • The local travel service in Stockholm, SL, also runs travel services to and from some of the airports.
  • Taxis are generally available outside of the airport building, or they can be booked in advance.

By public transport

Underground trains:

You can travel by the metro (underground/tube) from the central station in Stockholm (T-centralen). Take the red line northbound to Mörby Centrum and get off at the station ‘Universitetet’. The journey takes about 10 minutes.

By bus:

Take bus numbers 50, 540, 608 and 670 to the University (Get off at 'Universitetet norra'  for the main campus). Tickets must be bought before travel.

Tickets for public transport can be bought from newsagents as well as from SL (Stockholms lokaltrafik) ticket offices.

Tickets for your journey with Stockholms lokaltrafik (SL)

There are tickets and travelcards for short and longer periods of time.

Nearly all tickets are loaded on an SL Access card, which is an electronic smart card. You need to pay a fee of 20 SEK for the card itself. A single journey fare is 32 SEK and is valid for 75 minutes. You can re-use your card at future visits to Stockholm.

For the conference we would recommend you to buy a 72 hour travelcard. Adult fare is 260 SEK, and it gives you unlimited travel on all SL services for the whole three conference days.

For more information please see SL’s travel page also including a trip planner.

If you arrive at Arlanda airport, you can also save money by purchasing the SL ticket at Arlanda airport and taking an SL bus to the nearest commuter train station to continue to the central station, or if arriving early on Monday morning to Ulriksdals station and by bus from there to the university. If you take the commuter train straight from Arlanda airport, you will be charged an extra fee of 120 SEK.
