The purpose and content of the study programme

Purpose 
Bridging Teacher Education Programme for Secondary School and Upper Secondary School (KPU) is a study programme directed towards those who have already completed relevant subject studies within Humanities or Social Science at university level. 

The KPU study programme will complement the student’s previous subject studies with mandatory courses of 90 ECTS towards a teaching degree for Secondary School (Swedish level year 7-9) or Upper Secondary School (Swedish: Gymnasium).

Content
The mandatory courses of 90 ECTS consists of courses in Educational Science Core (in Swedish: utbildningsvetenskaplig kärna) and School Placement (verksamhetsförlagd utbildning). The Educational Science Core consists of courses of a variety of courses, e.g. in the field of pedagogy and  subject learning and teaching.

If you have previous relevant university level studies within any of the following subjects you may meet the requirements for KPU. You can apply with one or two subjects. Please note that only some subjects are open for application each year, visit the Swedish website for more information or contact the study counsellor. Also note that for certain subjects we only accept applications for Upper Secondary School.

Admission requirements

To fulfil the admission requirements for KPU at Stockholm University you need to meet the general admission requirements for the programme as well as the specific admission requirements for the subject/s that you are applying with. 

The general admission requirements

English 6
The English language general entry requirement is studies that are the equivalent of the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Swedish 3 
The Swedish language general entry requirement is studies that are the equivalent of the Swedish upper secondary course Swedish 3, or Swedish as a second language 3.

The specific admission requirements
Please note:
All applications must have a minimum of one independent project or thesis of 15 ECTS. 

If you are applying with a language as a subject based on academic studies from a non-Swedish speaking University (most cases with studies outside of Sweden), you need to have completed a complementary course on “contrastive methods” from a Swedish University before you can get admitted to KPU at Stockholm University. 

 

  • For Secondary School with one subject: 90 ECTS in that subject, including a 15 ECTS thesis.
     
  • For Secondary School with two subjects: 90 ECTS in the 1st subject and 60 ECTS in the 2nd subject, including a 15 ECTS thesis.
     
  • For Upper Secondary School with one subject: 120 ECTS in that subject, including a 15 ECTS thesis.
     
  • For Upper Secondary School with two subjects: 120 ECTS in the 1st subject and 90 ECTS in the 2nd subject, including a 15 ECTS thesis.

Assessment of qualifications
The assessment of qualifications is done by the Admissions Office after application through www.antagning.se

Application  

The KPU study programme starts every autumn semester at Stockholm University. Application dates and dates for admission are always found through the admissions website: www.antagning.se.

Please note that KPU at Stockholms university is a study programme open for national students with application through www.antagning.se
