ANANDA DEVI is a Mauritian writer. Her parents are Mauritians with Indian origins. She was surrounded by several languages (French, Creole, English and Telugu). As a child, she began to get passionate about writing, she mostly wrote poetry. At the age of 15, she won a writing contest with ORTF (Radio France), which published her short story. She published her first collection of short stories when she was 19 years old. She obtained a doctorate in social anthropology at the University of London.

Through her various novels and short stories, she offers readers a less idyllic vision of Mauritius than the one usually transmitted to tourists. She won the Prix des cinq continents de la francophonie and the Prix RFO with her novel “Ève de ses décombres” in 2006. In 2010, "Sari vert" received the Prix Louis Guillou and the author was made Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. In 2018, “Manger l’autre” received the Prix Ouest-France - Étonnants Voyageurs.
