Programme content

The two-year master’s programme builds on the first-cycle courses in Media and Communication Studies (90 credits) or equivalent. It aims to provide students with advanced knowledge of theory and methods that prepare them for independent research and qualified tasks within the broad field of media studies. In addition, the programme qualifies students for doctoral studies in the field. The language of instruction is English. The master's programme focuses on current discussions of theory and methods in international research. For example, it discusses the current theoretical and empirical research that credits the media with playing a role in the cultural, political, and economic globalisation, as well as theories concerning media, class, gender, and ethnicity that shed light on how the media represent and contribute to orders of class, gender, and ethnicity in culture and society. The final semester is devoted entirely to the degree project, and supervision is provided both individually and through group seminars.
