In the two-day seminar researchers based in Europe and Brazil, with a common interest in participatory communication, discussed how the work of education philosopher Paulo Freire can be applied to understand Brazilian civil society today in light of rising right-wing extremism in Brazil . The seminar was structured around dialogues addressing topics such as political polarisation, community development, coexistence, and tolerance.

Professor Thomas Tufte, Institute Director for the Institute for Media and Creative Industries at Loughborough University London together with post-doctoral researchers Ana Cristina Suzina and Cezar Jimenez organised the event.
