What made you decide to apply to Stockholm University?

Scandinavian countries have always been in my interest. Back home I've been studying media, since my childhood I have been watching Scandinavian films and television series. Despite that, I will continue a Master in International Development (in The Netherlands), a study field in which I think Sweden has always been a bit ahead.

How did you decide which courses to choose?

I choose some courses, because of my Master programme that I will continue in the Netherlands (for example a course in Latin American Studies, related to International Development).

How do studies here at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics differ in comparison to your home university?

In the course ‘Performativity, Gender and Body on Stage’, we only had seminars. These were seminars of 3 hours every week (3 hours once a week). At the University of Amsterdam, I had most of the time courses that divided these 3 hours into 2 sessions. That is the biggest difference in this course I think.

What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?

I fell in love with Stockholm. The city is amazing, I really enjoyed it. All the different islands and a lot of nature. I think I've never been living in a city that is so calm as Stockholm. Everything is so well organized. The time people spent with their families is something I will take home as well. The Sunday mornings walking through parks, while all these trendy parents were enjoying time with their children in the parks.

How would you describe a regular day as a student in Stockholm?

I think it's hard to describe a ‘regular day’ in Stockholm, because everyday was different and I didn't have a lot of rhythm in live here in Stockholm. I would say I went to university in the morning, had a great lunch with my friends and fellow students, (study a bit after that) and had fika. Going back home, organize myself and going out to some of my friends' kitchen's to cook together. In the weekends or on Thursdays going out together.

What is your top three places in Stockholm?

  1. Hornstull (strand)
  2. Björnö national park

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about coming to Stockholm as an exchange student?

Buy some good curtains (if they’re not there) and maybe some vitamin D.
