Palestinian Cinema: Solidarity Through Film focuses on film produced in the 70s and 80s, reflecting on how filmmakers and cinematic practices were pivotal in political engagement and international solidarity with Palestine.

The event comprises a public talk with Khadijeh Habashneh and the screening of two films: ‘Children Nevertheless’ (1984, 25min) by Khadijeh Habashneh and ‘Off Frame AKA Revolution Until Victory’(2016, 62min) by Mohanad Yaqubi.

As a filmmaker, member of the Palestinian Cinema Group and previously, head of the Palestinian Archive and the Palestinian Cinema Institute in Beirut, Khadijeh Habashneh has played a central role in the promotion of Palestinian Cinema through her efforts to preserve the Palestinian Film Archive, heavily damaged during the siege of Beirut by the Israeli army in 1982.

Children Nevertheless focuses on the orphan children of Tall El Zaatar, and exemplifies the production of documentaries that presented the life of refugees in camps. Off Frame is a meditation on the Palestinian people's struggle to produce an image and self-representation on their own terms in the 1960s and 1970s, with the establishment of the Palestine Film Unit as part of the PLO. Unearthing films stored in archives across the world, the film begins with popular representations of modern Palestine and traces the works of filmmakers who supported the Palestinian cause.
