The Institute for Visual Arts Education at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Education (HSD) is responsible for subject-didactic courses in the pre-school teacher and basic teacher programs as well as the programs for after-school care. Visual arts education deals with basic methods, materials and tools for image production. Images are explored as communication tools, the approaches to analyzing and interpreting these images are structured, and the didactics of teaching particular subjects are modelled. Visual Art Studies deal with different forms of visual creation, and focuses on the knowledge goals of pre-school, school and after-school care. The courses also take up how the communicative meaning of images develops for an individual, for a group or for a society. Academic teaching is didactical, in practical as well as in theoretical terms.
